Lansing, MI – All Democratic Michigan members of Congress voted for Equal Wages for Women as the Paycheck Fairness Act, H.R. 1338, passed the House of Representatives on July 31, 2008. Bob Alexander, 8th District Democratic Congressional nominee, strongly affirmed "I would have co-sponsored and voted for this crucial bill. Competent women hold the positions of Director, Media Director and Treasurer in my campaign. It is outrageous that equal pay is still an issue in 2008. We must change this tragic inequity as soon as possible."

All of Michigan’s Republican representatives voted "No," including Mike Rogers, Alexander's opponent. They justified their votes on the basis that passage of the Bill would generate income for trial lawyers. According to House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio: "This bill does little more than dole out favors to the Democrats' trial lawyer allies with no new benefit to protect workers."

The Institute of Women's Policy Research says wage disparity will cost a woman as much as $210,000.00 in lost wages over a 35 year working life. Connecticut Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, sponsored H.R.1338 that passed the House of Representatives on July 31. The bill passed by a 247-178 vote.

Democratic Congressional candidate Bob Alexander has released his campaign's first video, "Road Trip for Change."

The video documents Alexander's recent campaign kickoff, as he drove his new Chevy Malibu hybrid to meet with supporters in all five counties in the 8th Congressional District.

"Road Trip for Change" has already been posted on YouTube and is being promoted by a number of Michigan bloggers.  The video is a celebration of Michigan talent and energy both on and off camera.  Bob Alexander was raised in Michigan.  The video itself was produced by Video Professionals of Lansing, directed by Susan McPeak of DeWitt, and features original music from East Lansing composer and performer Michael Masterson.

Change is coming to Mid-Michigan, and Bob Alexander is leading the way.

Bob believes Mid-Michigan deserves a representative who understands that the serious challenges facing its citizens require real solutions and immediate action. He wants to foster America's energy independence, protect the environment, and safeguard Michigan jobs. So when it came time to say goodbye to his 1995 Ford Escort – all 256,000 miles of it – Bob chose the Chevy Malibu hybrid: an American car driven by American innovation.

Made right here in the United States, the state-of-the-art Malibu Hybrid has a better MPG rating and a smaller carbon footprint than the Honda Accord. It reflects Bob's dedication to American jobs, energy innovation, and environmental stewardship.
